ESRI Software available under the UC Berkeley Site License
UC Berkeley has a site license for the full suite of ESRI's commercial GIS products. This means that this world class software suite is available to the campus community at
a very low cost. However, there is some small print. This Site License Agreement allows only registered students, faculty and administrative staff members of this institution to use the programs. Programs are to be used only for instructional, research, and administrative purposes and can be installed only on university-owned computers.
Included in our license are:
ArcGIS 9.2 extends the current
platform with major new capabilities in the
areas of geoprocessing, 3D visualization, and
developer options. In addition, major
developments in the areas of usability,
reliability, and interoperability were made,
resulting in faster start-up times, reduced
memory usage, and significant usability
improvements, leading to easier to use and more
robust software.
ArcGIS Desktop (Arc View, ArcEditor,
and ArcInfo) includes the following new
additions:
- New geoprocessing framework for
modeling and scripting—The new
geoprocessing tools can be used in a number
of ways and work with all supported data
formats including geodatabase feature
classes. The same operations, commands, or
tools can run within dialog boxes,
interactively in visual models using model
builder, and quickly via command line
input, or they can be integrated into
multipart scripts or applications for
advanced analysis.
- Significant improvements to annotation
and labeling—There are significant
improvements to the user experience when
creating, editing, and managing labels and
geodatabase annotation. For example, a new
label manager lets users specify properties
without visiting layer dialog boxes
individually.
- Improved raster support—This
includes significant enhancements to raster
management, query, and visualization. Raster
data sets and raster catalogs can now be
stored in a personal geodatabase. Raster
data, such as digital photos of buildings,
can be stored as raster attributes in
geodatabase feature classes and stand-alone
tables.
- ArcMap GPS Support—This toolbar
is now integrated with the core ArcGIS 9
Desktop products.
ArcGIS Workstation 9.2—This includes new applications,
ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcToolkit, is based on object technology and will require new skills including programming in Visual Basic (replaces Avenue and AML scripting) and CASE tools for object development. These new ESRI products have been completely redesigned and engineered to be easy-to-use, fast, modern, yet a powerful GIS engine. While
9.2 is available in a Unix version, only the NT version has all the new functionality.
ArcSDE 9.2—Highlights include
improved image data management and raster
handling, new administrator tools, direct
connect for IBM DB2 and Informix, enhanced Java
API, and support for additional platforms for
DB2 (Red Hat Linux, HP-UX, and Sun Solaris).ArcIMS
9.2—This release
features support for the ArcIMS ArcMap Server on
the Solaris operating system. The ArcIMS ArcMap
Server allows users to take advantage of the
advanced data access and cartographic
capabilities offered in ArcMap by publishing
ArcMap documents (MXD files) on the Internet. ArcGIS Server
9.2— A new
product at 9.2, is a GIS enterprise application
server that provides complete GIS capabilities
(such as mapping, geocoding, spatial queries,
editing, tracing, and linear referencing)
throughout an organization while maintaining a
centrally managed database. ArcView 3.3 for desktop mapping and analysis.
In addition to the basic program, there is:
- Spatial Analyst allows you to create, query, map, and analyze cell-based raster data and to perform integrated vector-raster analysis. Version 2.0 will include the new Model Builder.
- Network Analyst enables users to solve a variety of problems using geographic networks (i.e., streets, highways, rivers, pipelines, electric lines, etc.) such as finding the most efficient travel route, generating travel directions, finding the closest facility, or defining service areas based on travel time.
- 3D Analyst provides a suite of high-quality, easy-to-use tools for creating, analyzing, and visualizing surface data and other three-dimensional data.
- Image Analyst supports a range of image analysis capabilities including image rectification, color enhancement, and simple change detection.
- ArcView Internet Map Server extension is an out-of-the-box map publishing tool for the World Wide Web. It includes a Java applet for map display across the Web.
- ArcPress is a graphics metafile rasterizer that enables you to output high-quality maps on today's high-quality raster plotting devices.
ARC/INFO 7.2 is the previous standard in professional high-end GIS with capabilities for automation, modification, management, analysis, and display of geographic information. Not for novices! Requires extensive training. Also available are ARC/INFO modules TIN,
COGO, GRID, NETWORK, ArcStorm, ArcScan, ArcPress.
ArcIMS 9.2 is also based on the new object technology. ArcIMS supports serving data with maps or via intelligent vector streaming. In addition, ArcIMS facilitates access from multiple servers in your organization or throughout the world.
MapObjects 2.0 is an extensive library of mapping and GIS software components. MapObjects works in standard Windows development environments such as Visual Basic®, Visual C++, Delphi®, PowerBuilder®, and others. Also:
- MapObjects Internet Map Server
(IMS) provides everything you need to quickly create dynamic Web mapping applications for distributing geographic data. This versatile tool set lets you easily author, publish, and view live maps and data on the Web.
Other ESRI Products available under our site license:
- NetEngine - New programmer's library designed for network analysis.
- PC ARC/INFO 3.5.2- GIS for Windows and DOS computers.
- ArcCAD - Full GIS functionality within AutoCAD.
- Atlas GIS - Sophisticated options for analyzing and distributing your data.
- BusinessMAP PRO - Easy-to-use consumer mapping.
- ArcLogistics Route - A complete vehicle routing and scheduling solution on the desktop.
- U.S. Street Database
- Data & Maps
