This website is a demonstration project for the use of
Geographic Information Systems to spatially organize and orient research
data.
This interface allows users to select data layers for display on an interactive map. Many of the points of the data layers are linked to additional information such as text, historic photographs, images of sites or objects, or audio and video files. The sample research datasets included in the on-line demonstration represent a range of data types created for varied purposes. These datasets have been generously shared by the collaborators listed below. These contributors retain rights to their material.

Users can select data by clicking on the squares beside data layers listed to the right of the map. By clicking on the white arrows on the pink time bar below the map, users can see data chronologically mapped. The tool bar at the top of the map allows users to zoom in and out, or change the area shown in the map.
Data concerning Southeast Asia gathered by researchers around the world can be brought together in a single digital environment. In addition to the Geographic Information Science Center, University of California, Berkeley, collaborators include the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University; the TimeMap Project, Archaeological Computing Laboratory, University of Sydney; and institutions and individuals affiliated with ECAI Southeast Asia.
