1st Annual Public Participation GIS Conference

You are invited to attend the 1st Annual Public Participation GIS Conference. The conference will last from July 21-23, 2002 and is being held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.. Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) refers to a range of topics raised by the intersection of community interests and GIS technology. The PPGIS Conference will bring together participants with a rich diversity of experience.

Registration and the Preliminary Program is now available on-line at Urban and Regional Information Systems Association's (URISA's) website, www.urisa.org/ppgis.htm

Due to the absence of a paper-based program all of the information concerning this event will be available on the URISA website. This feature has allowed URISA to offer a full conference registration fee at a substantially reduced cost. Registration rates are: URISA Member/Non-member: $150; Non-profit group staff/volunteer: $50 (proof of affiliation required)

Doug Aberely, the author of Boundaries of Home, Mapping for Local Empowerment, which is considered to be the first book exploring GIS for social change, will be our keynote speaker.

The comprehensive, three-day program's topics include:

Mobile technologies
PPGIS in both small and large communities
Federal and State led PPGIS initiatives
Data Modeling
Web Impacts
As well as numerous case studies and examples from both the public, nonprofit and private sectors.

See you in New Jersey!
