ArcIMS
- Instructors: Patty Frontiera and Le Wang
- Prerequisites: Working knowledge of ArcView or other desktop GIS, Basic Web authoring skills (at least HTML), basic knowledge of network concepts, working knowlege of Internet Explorer or Netscape, working knowledge of Windows NT or Windows 95/98 environment
- Hours: 6 (includes laboratory)
- OS/Software: WinNT workstation / WinNT Server, ArcIMS 3.0 pre-release
This 6-hour course provides a conceptual overview and the hands-on experience needed to incorporate interactive mapping functionality into Web Sites using ArcIMS 3. The course covers a basic introduction of WebGIS architecture and different strategies to realize interactions between the server sides and client sides. Students will become familiar with the different ArcIMS components including map authoring services, interface customization, map distribution services and ArcIMS server adminstration.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand WebGIS architecture.
- Use ArcIMS authoring tools to import and organize data, and build map services.
- Use ArcIMS designer tools to create custom application interfaces and functions.
- Publish map services on the internet.
- Understand the ArcIMS server administration.
Certificate Requirement:
In order to qualify for the certificate of completion, students will be required to complete several WebGIS applications utilizing the knowledge learned in the course.
Special Registration Information
Registration is open initially only to members of the UCB community at a reduced price of $45. Members of the outside community are welcome to register at a reduced rate of $75, but availability of seats will not be confirmed until April 17, on a first come first served basis. Internships are not available for this course although special arrangements for payment may be considered.
