Course Description

Using GIS is a 6- hour course which expands on the students basic understanding of GIS obtained through the Beginning GIS Course. Following completion of this intensive class, students will be ready to undertake a simple real world GIS project.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Create a data layer from a table with X and Y coordinates.
  • Join tables
  • Bring images and CAD data into the ArcView 8.1 environment.
  • Locate points with street addressing
  • Process spatial data by dissolving elements, merging files, clipping data, intersect two data layers, and creating a union of two or more data layers.
  • Enhance your finished product by displaying data based on scale and hyperlinking actions to your map.

Prerequisite

Successful completion of the Beginning GIS course, or experience using ArcView 8.1.

 OS/Software: WinNT/WS_ftp/ArcView 8.1.

Hours: 6 (includes laboratory)
