Beginning GIS
(formerly: Introduction to GIS)
- Prerequisites:Working knowledge of Windows 98, NT or 2000
- Hours: 6 (includes laboratory)
- OS/Software: WinNT/WS_ftp/ArcView 8.1
This 6-hour course provides hands-on experience and the functional overview necessary to display, edit, perform queries,perform analysis, construct and plot a map. The course covers the basic ArcView 8.1 operations and students will become familiar with the ArcView 8.1 components such as ArcMap, ArcCatalog & ArcTools and create and print layouts including coded maps, tables and charts.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Work within the ArcView 8.1 interface and to explain elements such as data frames, tables, charts, and layouts.
- Use ArcView to input and display spatial data.
- Symbolize spatial data and export map images.
- Input and create shapefiles, tables, charts, and layouts.
- Edit, calculate, query and sort data in tables.
- Print and export layouts .
