Arc/Info 8.0

Prerequisites: Working knowledge of ArcView, experience of Arc/Info 7 would be a plus. Working knowlege of Windows NT environment
Hours: 6 (includes laboratory)
OS/Software: WinNT workstation, Arc/Info 8 (workstation and desktop)

This class introduces Arc/Info 8 to GIS users with Arc/Info 7 (not required, but such working knowledge would be a plus) and ArcView experience. It lectures briefly on the procedure required to install this new version on campus computers, the new Arc/Info 8 features in workstation, desktop as well as geoprocessing servers, and the new concept of Geodatabase. The major part of the class provides hands-on exercise on Arc/Info 8 workstation for NT, ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcToolbox.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the procedure and requirements to install and run Arc/Info 8 on Windows NT workstation
  • Understand the workstation and desktop features in Arc/Info 8
  • Migrate from old Arc/Info 7 to Arc/Info 8
  • Know the new concepts and new geodatabase data structure in Arc/Info 8
  • Process data and perform basic analysis in ArcCatalog, ArcMap, and ArcToolbox

Certificate Requirement:

In order to qualify for the certificate of completion, students will be required to complete the exercise/short test utilizing the knowledge learned in the course.
